To prepare for our second visit we explored the question: What is a collection?

We read a perfect book, that we highly recommend: Prudy's Problem and How She Solved It by Carey Armstrong-Ellis.

Prudy has so many collections she doesn't know what to do with them.  The Children's Museum has amazing collections to engage with.  The students especially enjoyed the collection of items from Mister Roger's Neighborhood and the newest exhibit, Whoosh!

Narissa the puppeteer.
Pilots Dominic and Sean fly the plane in the Whoosh! exhibit.
1st grade artists create handmade paper.
Jesse and Patrick found some friends from Mr. Roger's Neighborhood!

Some of our favorite moments...

“I liked the airplane in Whoosh!” – Sean

“I thought it was really cool that I got to make a parachute.” – Patrick

“My favorite was when we made bubbles.” – Ava

“I remember on our trip we were playing in the attic. I liked the two slides.” – Travis

“I like making the rocket at Whoosh!” – Juliann

“I thought it was cool when we used the hose to make bubbles.” – Dominic

“I liked making parachutes fly in the tube.” – Jesse

“I liked the new exhibit, Whoosh!” – Tommy

“I got to try the skeleton puppet that moved.” – Nate

“I liked that we got to build something new in Whoosh!” – Jaymie

“I liked in Whoosh! – I forgot what its called – we wore goggles and things went all around.” – Jordan

The 1st grade students involved in this partnership have been working in science all year to observe changes.  We visited the museum in the fall, and the winter, so it seemed likely we would see some changes during our visit on the 11th day of spring. We noticed:

The tree in the front of the museum lost it's "sweater".
